How much does a website cost in Fiji? A practical budgeting guide
A useful website budget starts with scope. Learn what changes the price, what belongs in ongoing costs and how to compare proposals for a Fiji business website.
By AJ Solutions · Practical guidance for your next digital decision
A website in Fiji should be priced against a clear scope, not page count alone. A five-page enquiry website, a product catalogue and a store that accepts payments can look similar in a proposal while requiring very different work. Before comparing quotes, define what customers need to do and what your team needs to manage.
This guide explains how to assemble a budget and evaluate proposals. It does not offer a market-average price or an AJ Solutions price list: both would need current, comparable scope and verified figures. Use it alongside our website project planner to turn an idea into a useful brief.
Start with the job your website must do
Write one primary outcome in plain language. A building contractor might need visitors to understand its services and request a site visit. A tour operator might need enquiries containing travel dates and group sizes. A retailer might need customers to select products, pay and choose delivery. Each outcome creates a different set of screens, information and operational responsibilities.
Separate the first release from later improvements. For example, a booking enquiry can be useful before a full availability and payment system is justified. The important question is whether staff can reliably handle that enquiry. A smaller working service is a better starting point than a long list of features without an owner.
Understand the main cost drivers
Cost driver
What to define before a quote
Design and structure
Brand assets, layout requirements, reusable page types and how many design reviews are included.
Content
Who writes service descriptions, supplies photographs, edits product information and approves the copy.
Functionality
Forms, bookings, search, online payments, accounts, integrations and the exceptions each must handle.
Existing-site migration
Pages, files, enquiries, products and links that must be retained or moved.
Testing and handover
Mobile checks, form delivery, training, access transfer and launch support.
Page count remains useful, but count distinct page types too. Ten project stories using one approved layout differ from ten individually designed sales pages. Likewise, importing a clean product spreadsheet differs from researching and rewriting every product description.
Compare a launch budget with an ownership budget
Your launch budget covers discovery, design, content, implementation, testing and handover. Your ownership budget covers the services needed after launch. Request both in the same currency and ask whether quoted amounts include any applicable taxes. For Fiji businesses paying overseas subscriptions, also check the provider’s billing currency and your bank’s conversion or payment charges.
Use this simple planning model: first-year cost = agreed build + content and migration + first-year recurring services + separately approved changes. Then prepare a renewal-year estimate. Promotional first-year charges, annual licences and services paid monthly should be shown separately so that a lower opening price does not hide higher ongoing commitments.
- Domain registration and renewal, with the business recorded as the account owner.
- Hosting or a platform subscription, plus the resources and support included.
- Email services, which should be explicitly included or excluded.
- Paid themes, extensions, booking systems and other recurring licences.
- Maintenance, backups, monitoring and agreed content updates.
- Payment-processing costs or usage charges where the website needs them.
WordPress itself can be used commercially without a software licensing fee. That does not make design, hosting, premium extensions or ongoing management free. Its flexibility is one reason two WordPress proposals can have different scopes. WordPress explains its software and licensing features here.
Ask what maintenance actually includes
“Support included” needs a definition. Ask who applies updates, how faults are reported, what counts as an urgent issue and whether content changes are included. Establish how many revisions or support hours are available and what happens when that allowance is used.
Backups also need a practical recovery plan. A provider should explain what is backed up, how long copies are kept, where they are stored and how restoration is tested. WordPress documentation distinguishes the database from site files: both matter when restoring a complete installation. Read the official WordPress backup guidance. A backup checkbox alone does not explain how your business resumes work after a problem.
Make Fiji-specific requirements explicit
Describe where you serve customers and how work reaches them. A business serving Suva, Nadi and other areas through online consultations should explain coverage without suggesting offices it does not have. For shops, define pickup points and delivery areas. For tourism, identify the time zone used for bookings and who confirms availability.
State whether customers will browse prices in FJD, pay in FJD or need another supported currency. Display currency and payment acceptance are different requirements. If you need English plus another language, budget for approved translation, navigation and ongoing updates in each language. Do not treat automatic translation as an agreed editorial process.
Protect what works during a redesign
Before replacing an existing site, list useful pages and check which ones receive enquiries, search visits or external links. Keep their addresses when practical. If a page must move, specify its replacement and test the redirect. Google recommends URL mapping, appropriate permanent redirects and updated internal links for a migration. See Google’s migration guidance.
Include analytics, search verification, form recipients and existing customer workflows in the handover checklist. A visually improved website still needs to send enquiries to the correct person.
Compare proposals with these seven questions
- What exact pages, features and deliverables are included?
- Who supplies and approves text, images and product data?
- Which dependencies could change the timeline?
- What will I pay initially, monthly and at renewal?
- Who owns the domain, accounts, content and agreed work?
- How are requests outside the scope priced and approved?
- What testing, training and post-launch support will I receive?
Also separate the website build from ongoing search or advertising work. A technical SEO setup is useful, but it cannot guarantee a first-place ranking. Google explicitly cautions against guaranteed number-one claims.
To prepare a comparable quote, gather your existing URL, preferred launch window, required features, content status and main business objective.
